Classmate wa Isekai de Yuusha ni Natta kedo, Ore dake Gendai Nihon ni Okizari ni Narimashita - Chapter 3
Chapter 3: Back to Everyday Life
"Fuu..."
Placing my bag full of belongings on my desk, I sprawled out on my bed.
"I'm finally back home..."
After about two weeks since the accident, I was finally discharged from the hospital and allowed to return to my beloved home.
There were various reasons why my hospitalization lasted more than twice as long as initially expected, but the biggest cause was probably the swarm of malicious reporters and conspiracy theorists lingering around the hospital.
The police had officially classified the accident as an unfortunate gas explosion, but some people refused to believe it and were desperate to uncover the so-called "truth" behind it.
Naturally, their attention turned to me—the sole survivor of the incident.
Thankfully, my family and I managed to keep our names and faces from being exposed, but my hospital's location was still discovered, making it impossible for me to move freely.
However, as time passed, public interest faded, and the police assured us that the situation had been secured. Because of that, I was finally able to return home yesterday.
(Dad and Kana really went through a lot because of me...)
Unlike me, who simply had to stay holed up in the hospital, both of them had their jobs and lessons to attend to.
Dad had to be extra cautious about his movements, and my little sister even had to take a break from her extracurricular activities.
Both of them told me, "Don't worry about it," but I still couldn't shake off the guilt.
I'll make sure to repay them for this soon.
"...Alright."
I focused my thoughts and mentally commanded: 'Status.'

Even while I was hospitalized, I consistently used my skills to level up.
By the fifth day, I had developed a sense of how much MP I had left, so I rarely experienced nausea or drowsiness anymore.
However—
"My growth rate has definitely slowed down..."
I reached Level 10 exactly five days ago.
Then, three days ago, I finally leveled up to Level 11.
Before that, as long as I pushed myself to my limits with skill activation, I could gain a level the very next day.
But now, the rate of improvement had noticeably slowed down.
More than that—
"I don’t even feel like I’m getting stronger."
"Appraisal."
I attempt to use Appraisal on the skills themselves while keeping my status window open.

I see, so this is why I can’t level up anymore.
It seems that I had been gaining EXP bonuses from leveling up my skills, which in turn helped raise my overall level.
But now that I’ve maxed out those skill levels, I can no longer receive those bonuses.
In other words, if I want to continue leveling up, I have to acquire new skills.
I lightly tap on the SP section of my status window.
A new screen overlays my status, displaying a list of available skills.

I had figured out long ago that SP was used to acquire new skills.
The problem is that I have no way of knowing what a skill actually does until I learn it.
For example, Fire Magic is easy to imagine—it probably lets me generate flames freely.
But skills like Substitution Magic or Dark Magic? I have no idea what their effects might be.
And more importantly, I have no way of knowing how much MP each skill will consume when used.
…To be honest, I don’t need to level up any further.
Thanks to Universal Translation, I can understand foreign languages automatically.
My improved stats have made daily life practically effortless—I barely get tired anymore.
I’ve already gained plenty of benefits, so there’s no real reason for me to stress over choosing a new skill.
And yet, here I am, struggling to decide on one.
"…Maybe there’s no deeper reason."
I simply want to level up. I want to grow stronger.
That’s probably the only reason I’m so fixated on this.
In the end, I decide to acquire Water Magic, Wind Magic, and Spatial Teleportation Magic before checking my status again.

Now, which skill should I check first?
The safest option seems to be Water Magic, but there’s a risk of it overflowing like a sudden flood and soaking my entire room.
Wind Magic isn’t much better—if a strong gust of wind sweeps through, my room could end up a total mess.
That leaves Spatial Teleportation Magic as my only choice…
"Appraisal."

“…I won’t end up embedded in a wall or something, right…?”
Spatial Teleportation Magic—it’s probably some form of teleportation.
The problem is, I have no way of knowing exactly where an object will end up until I try it.
And I have no idea how much MP it will consume.
“Well, let’s give this a shot.”
I grab an empty sports drink bottle—the one I bought from a hospital vending machine before I was discharged.
For now, I’ll test if I can teleport it into my room’s trash can.
"Spatial Teleportation."
The moment I activate the skill, the bottle vanishes from my hand.
At the same time, an overwhelming wave of fatigue and drowsiness washes over me.
“S-Status…”

Over 100 MP was drained in an instant.
There’s no way I can use this skill in daily life…
That was the last thing I could confirm before I finally lost consciousness.
