Chapter 22: I Encountered a Blonde Transfer Student

"Ahh... I'm so exhausted..."

A month had passed since the Ushioni subjugation, and now that the results of the midterm exams had been returned, I could finally relax.

Thanks to [Universal Translation], I didn't have to study much for English or Classical Japanese, but math and physics were a different story.

However, since I was able to dedicate more time to my weak subjects, my scores this time were quite good—especially for someone like me, who is completely a humanities-type student.

"Shuu, how did your test results turn out?"

"Not bad. What about you, Rentarou?"

"Haha... It's really bad."

Rentarou showed me his test paper, which was either barely passing or outright failing, and his face turned pale.

Looking around the classroom, I noticed that many other male students had similarly pale faces as they stared at their returned test results. The overall class average seemed quite low.

Let me clarify something upfront: this school is not a prestigious academic institution, nor are the exams particularly difficult.

If you simply take notes in class and study normally, you should be able to avoid failing.

And yet, the average score was so low, and so many students ended up failing. The reason? A quick glance at the pale-faced students gave me a pretty good idea.

The week after the Ushioni subjugation, when I came to school as usual, my classmates naturally started questioning me about the memo incident.

I had Kuon back me up with a cover story, saying, "I was just helping out with a part-time job," but that wasn’t enough to clear the suspicions of some students.

I had resigned myself to the fact that my peaceful high school life was probably over.

However, just three days later, an event completely overshadowed our situation.

One of the guys in our class started dating a girl from another school.

It was only natural that my classmates’ curiosity shifted from "a mere suspicion about me" to "someone who was actually dating someone."

If the story had ended there, it would have just been a temporary class drama about one of us getting a girlfriend.

But things didn’t stop there.

Shortly afterward, yet another classmate got a girlfriend from a different school.

And within just a week, a total of five of our classmates—including Rentarou—ended up getting girlfriends.

Their obsession with bragging about their relationships was so overwhelming that it killed any interest other students had in love gossip.

Even during the exam period, they spent most of their time on dates instead of studying.

And this was the result.

"Well, good luck on the finals."

"...Yeah..."

Placing a hand on Rentarou’s shoulder, I encouraged him before starting to pack up my things.

"Myaa-chan, you got first place in every subject!?"

"Guess being the top scorer in the entrance exams wasn’t just for show, huh?"

"Hey, hey! Will you study with us for the finals!?"

"Sure! Let’s all get good scores together!"

Turning around, I saw Kuon happily chatting with her female friends.

Now that the Ushioni incident was behind us, she seemed much more at ease compared to how she looked on the day of the entrance ceremony.

Leaving that lively scene behind, I stepped out of the classroom.

(Crap, I forgot something in the audiovisual room!)

Just as I was about to switch into my outdoor shoes at the school entrance, I suddenly remembered something important.

During this morning’s class, I had left my notebook in the audiovisual room, which was on the first floor of the second school building, a place that also housed various club rooms.

There wasn’t anything particularly sensitive written in it, but I’d rather not get scolded by a teacher for forgetting it.

Without wasting any time, I turned around and hurried toward the audiovisual room.

"A light blue notebook? Is this what you're looking for?"

"Yes! I’m really sorry for the trouble!"

Fortunately, a senior from the film research club, which used the audiovisual room as their clubroom, had already found my notebook.

That saved me the time of searching for it.

After bowing my head in thanks, I started walking back toward the entrance again.

"Huh?"

That’s when I spotted a blonde-haired girl wandering around the hallway, looking lost.

She appeared to be half-Japanese and half-foreign, and her uniform matched ours, but I had never seen her before.

She seemed to be struggling with something, so I figured I might as well talk to her.

I activated my [Universal Translation] skill and spoke in English.

『Is something wrong?』

『Oh my, how polite of you. But there’s no need to speak in English, you know.』

So she could speak Japanese. In that case, there was no need to use my skill.

"I see. Well, you looked like you were having trouble with something. Is everything okay?"

"I can't find the faculty office. I’ve been searching this building for a while, but I just can’t seem to locate it."

If she didn’t know where the faculty office was, that meant today was probably her first time at this school.

Well, no point in overthinking it right now.

"This is the second school building. The faculty office is in the first building next door. I can show you the way if you’d like—though, honestly, it’s just right over there."

"Thanks, that’d be a big help. Oh, and you don’t have to be so formal with me. We’re probably in the same grade."

"Alright, I’ll do that then."

And So, I Led Her to the Faculty Office

Just as I told her, the faculty office wasn’t far from here.

Even if I explained the route in detail while walking, it wouldn’t take more than five minutes to arrive.

"…Alright, just turn right here, and the faculty office is right ahead."

"Oh my, it really is close."

The blonde girl placed a hand over her mouth in surprise.

Well, I had brought her this far, so my job was done.

"You were a great help. If I hadn’t met you, I’d probably have been lost in that building forever."

"That’s a bit of an exaggeration. Anyway, I’ll be heading off now."

"Ah, wait! Before you go, can I ask your name?"

Oh, right—I hadn’t introduced myself yet.

"Iori Shuu. My last name is Iori, and my first name is Shuu."

"…Iori Shuu. Alright, I’ve got it. Next time we meet, let me properly thank you."

"You don’t have to do anything to thank me for something this small. By the way, what’s your name?"

She placed a hand over her large chest and answered.

"Alicia Kamori. Sorry for taking up your time. See you around!"

With a bright smile, Alicia turned and ran toward the faculty office.

Watching her energetic demeanor, I thought to myself, She’s probably going to be really popular with the guys.

And with that, I casually made my way back toward the entrance.

"Hmmm… so that is Iori Shuu, huh?"
