Chapter 6: Three Months Have Passed

"Make sure to submit your career path survey by tomorrow. Alright, homeroom’s over. Dismissed."

"Thank you very much!"

After bowing toward the screen, I let out a relieved sigh and closed the window.

Three months had passed since that incident, and I had been transferred to another class.

That said, I hadn’t actually met my new classmates even once.

As you know, the school building had been completely destroyed, making it impossible to attend classes in person.

Transferring all the students to a different school wasn’t an option either.

So, the school decided to resume classes online.

Thanks to that, I was able to avoid being pestered with questions from other students and continue my peaceful school life. My personal research had also been progressing smoothly.

"Status."

――――

I had diligently continued using my skills every day to level up, and my hard work had finally paid off this month when I hit level 30.

Man, it was really tough getting this far.

There was that time I got carried away with Ice Magic during the summer heat, causing it to go out of control. And then when I was testing Healing Magic, my sister completely misunderstood what I was doing…

Looking back, those moments were… well, not exactly fond memories, but at least I could laugh about them now.

"Maybe it’s time to learn some new skills."

As my status showed, I had a ton of unused skill points.

In the past three months, I had only picked up Ice Magic and Healing Magic—and those were learned on impulse, mostly out of desperation from the summer heat. If the seasons had been different, I might not have learned any new skills at all.

I’ve always been the type to hoard items in games, avoiding their use as much as possible.

Looks like that habit carried over into this game-like reality too—I had been unwilling to spend my skill points.

There’s a term for this kind of behavior… something like Elixir Syndrome?

That being said, among the skills I already had, the only ones that weren’t maxed out yet were Spatial Transfer Magic (since I rarely had opportunities to use it) and Healing Magic.

It was probably time to pick up a more practical skill—something I could use freely without worry.

"The problem is… I have no idea what any of these skills actually do."

Once again, I tapped the SP section, bringing up a massive list of skills.

And once again, I found myself hesitating.

What if I wasted my valuable skill points on a completely useless ability?

Ping!

Just as I was groaning over my choices, my phone chimed with a notification.

"We’re almost out of rice and toilet paper. Go buy some."

The message was from my younger sister, who practiced kendo at the dojo.

Since we were raised by a single parent and Dad usually came home late, my sister and I took turns handling housework—cooking, cleaning, laundry, and so on—switching responsibilities every other day. Though, depending on our schedules, we often adjusted the rotation as needed.

Grocery shopping also fell under housework duties.

Since today was my turn, that meant it was my job to go.

"Grocery shopping, huh…?"

Three months ago, I thought that with the right skills, I’d be able to handle household chores effortlessly.

Unfortunately, things didn’t work out that conveniently.

Take Spatial Transfer Magic, for example.

After a lot of trial and error, I finally managed to teleport my physical body to another location. But the MP consumption turned out to be absurd.

Short-range teleportation, within a few meters, was manageable.

But if I tried to jump all the way to the nearest supermarket, my MP would be completely drained.

"Is there anything that could make housework easier?"

I swiped through the list of skills at random until one, in particular, caught my eye.

"…‘Item Box’?"

Item Box—a skill commonly found in games and web novels.

If this worked the same way as in those stories…

"…Alright."

If I kept hesitating, I’d never learn new skills.

With that in mind, I tapped the Item Box skill, spending a whopping 60 SP to acquire it.

And, as usual, the first thing to do after learning a skill was to appraise it.

―――

Target: Skill "Item Box"
Effect: Consumes MP to summon an item box
Status: Skill Level 1/10
Notes:

―――

Hmm… the appraisal info doesn’t really tell me much.

I guess I’ll have to test it myself to figure out how it actually works.

"Item Box!"

Curious about its effects, I activated the Item Box skill.

A white, box-like object materialized in front of me.

"So… this is it?"

As I stared at the white box, somewhat uncertain, the pencil I was holding in my left hand suddenly got sucked inside.

"H-Huh?"

Caught off guard, I just stood there, dumbfounded.

Then, a translucent screen—similar to my Status display—appeared from the white box.

―――

"Item Box"

Stored Items:
・1 Pencil

―――

"…Deactivate Item Box."

The moment I canceled the skill, the white box vanished, and the pencil fell from thin air.

I quickly checked my Status screen.
