Chapter 5: I Started Testing My Skills - Part 2

“…Alright.”

After finishing a simple breakfast of cereal and a banana, I returned to my room and started experimenting with my magic skills.

The first thing I figured out was that any skill with “magic” in its name varied greatly in scale depending on the caster's imagination.

When I first used Water Magic in the bathroom, I must have subconsciously held back, not wanting to get drenched. That’s why the water orb that appeared was only the size of my palm.

The second time, however, I imagined something flashier, and the resulting water orb ended up as big as me.

Based on this, it’s safe to assume that magic skills are heavily influenced by the caster’s imagination.

But the most crucial discovery was this: MP consumption isn’t fixed.

For example, when I created the small palm-sized water orb, it only cost 5 MP. However, when I summoned the giant version, it drained 50 MP all at once.

Taking all this into account, I came up with a stable method to efficiently gain experience and level up.

“Water Magic.”

I activated the skill, and a minuscule water droplet—barely big enough to be called an orb—appeared on my palm.

After confirming its existence, I carefully checked my status, making sure not to let the tiny water sphere disappear.

"Phase one cleared."

The next step

The real challenge comes next.

After dismissing the water orb, I activate Water Magic again.

This time, I imagine the exact same tiny bead-sized water sphere as before.

“…Water Magic.”

Once again, a small orb appears in my palm, identical in size to the previous one.

Now, here’s the critical part.

“Status.”

HP: 370/370
MP: 28/125
SP: 20
STR: 11
VIT: 12

INT: 11

Skills: Appraisal, Universal Translation, Water Magic, Wind Magic, Spatial Teleportation Magic

―――

“Phew…”

Seeing that my MP consumption was only 1 point, I let out a relieved sigh.

By minimizing the size of the water sphere to the extreme, I had reduced MP usage to its absolute minimum. This allowed me to maximize the number of times I could use the skill.

This was the most efficient way I could think of to earn experience consistently.

However, figuring this out wasn’t easy.

If my mental image wavered even slightly, the water orb’s shape would become unstable, leading to higher MP consumption.

On the other hand, if my imagination was too weak, the skill wouldn’t activate at all.

It took a lot of fine-tuning, but now that I had it down, all I had to do was repeat this daily, ensuring a safe and steady accumulation of experience.

『Required experience reached. Level up initiated.』

Just as I was thinking that, a mechanical voice suddenly rang out.

At the same time, my status values began shifting.

Iori Shuu – Lv.14 – Human
HP: 400/400
MP: 130/130
SP: 30
STR: 13
VIT: 15

AGI: 15
INT: 18

―――

"Whoa… so this is what leveling up looks like in real time."

Up until now, I had always leveled up in my sleep, so this was my first time actually witnessing it happen.

As I marveled at the sight, a thought suddenly crossed my mind.

When I transferred schools, I had taken a physical fitness test, and my results were almost exactly average nationwide.

If I assume that was my Level 1 physical ability, then…

Just how strong am I now at Level 14?

“Onii-chan, can I come in?”

A light knock on the door was followed by my sister’s voice.

I quickly closed my status screen and answered.

“Yeah, come in.”

“…Hey, about this morning…”

“Oh, you mean the shower thing?”

“No, not that…”

“Huh? Was there something else?”

“…If you don’t remember, then never mind.”

She paused, then quickly changed the subject.

“Anyway, I’m going out to buy groceries for lunch and dinner. Come with me.”

“Alright, I’ll get ready.”

With that, she left the room.

I could test my new stats later.

For now, I needed to make up for the two weeks of trouble I had caused.

Shifting my focus, I started getting changed.

“…Onii, you idiot.”
