Chapter 11: Ended Up Helping Someone (Part 4)
"Good morning, Iori-kun."
"Hey, Fujisawa-san."
On a weekend morning, we ran into each other again at the usual supermarket bike parking lot.
Fujisawa-san wasn’t wearing her apron this time. Instead, she was dressed in outdoor clothes—a boa jacket and long pants.
She also had a long, cloth-wrapped object strapped to her back.
"It’s really been a while since we met like this, huh?"
"Yeah, a lot’s happened since then."
Fujisawa-san spoke with a nostalgic smile, and compared to the last time I saw her, her complexion had improved significantly.
If you asked Kana, she’d probably say, "She’s back to her usual, energetic self."
After that night, Kajiwara and the others were arrested by the police I had called in advance.
As a result, all the abuse and violence Fujisawa-san had suffered were finally brought to light.
But at the same time, a new problem emerged—what would happen to her and her younger brothers?
Among those arrested was Fujisawa-san’s mother.
That meant the only remaining guardian was her father, but he had been absent for months, only sending money for living expenses.
Could someone like that really be entrusted with raising children?
Because of this, Child Protective Services considered placing them in a child welfare facility.
"By the way, how are your little brothers doing?"
"They’re doing great at our grandparents’ place. Look."
Fujisawa-san held up her phone, showing me a picture of her brothers playing happily, while an elderly couple watched over them with warm smiles.
Apparently, her paternal grandparents, who had been worried about losing contact for so long, were the first to step in when they learned about the situation.
Despite being related to her father, they were surprisingly kind-hearted people and were raising her brothers properly.
"But are you sure about coming back here?"
"…Yeah. I still have a lot of memories in that house, and besides, I want to graduate together with everyone."
That’s right—Fujisawa-san chose not to live with her grandparents.
Of course, they strongly opposed it, but she persisted and eventually convinced them to let her stay in that house.
Honestly, I think she would’ve been better off living with them, but if this is what she wants, then so be it.
"By the way, I heard those guys are saying some crazy things during their interrogations. Something about being attacked by a monster?"
"Ahh… yeah."
Apparently, Kajiwara and the others kept insisting things like, “We were attacked by a monster!” and “If we don’t escape now, we’ll be killed!”
Meanwhile, Fujisawa-san’s mother claimed, “The living room door suddenly froze over!”
Since they were all extremely intoxicated at the time, the police dismissed it as alcohol-induced hallucinations.
But knowing the truth, I honestly had no idea how to respond.
That night, I had used Spatial Transfer Magic to teleport into Fujisawa-san’s house.
The first thing I did was freeze the living room door shut with Ice Magic to keep her mother from barging in.
Then, after getting Fujisawa-san and her brothers to safety and knocking out Kajiwara and his gang, I escaped through the window and returned to my room as if nothing had happened.
Normally, running between our houses at full speed would take about 30 minutes one way, but the entire incident was over in just 10 minutes.
Apparently, during his interrogation, Kajiwara suddenly remembered me and started yelling, “Iori Osamu is a monster!”
Of course, given the circumstances, the detectives completely ignored him.
"Senpaaai!"
As we were chatting, I suddenly heard Kana’s voice calling out from the distance.
"You're late, Kana."
"Shut up, big brother. More importantly—it's been a while, Fujisawa-senpai!"
"Yeah, it has. I'm glad to see you're doing well, Kana-chan."
"Yep! Now that Senpai is back, I feel super energetic!"
On Kana’s back was a long, cloth-wrapped object—the same as the one Fujisawa-san was carrying.
A shinai.
That’s right. Today was the day Fujisawa-san would return to the dojo for the first time in months.
"Alright, big brother, don’t forget to hang up the laundry properly, okay?"
"Yeah, yeah, I got it."
"Alright then, let’s go! Fujisawa-senpai!"
"Ah, wait a second."
Just as she was about to leave, Fujisawa-san suddenly turned back.
Did she forget something? I wondered as I watched her walk toward me.
Then—
"…Really, truly, thank you, Iori-kun."
She whispered softly into my ear.
And then—
"See you next week."
"O-oh."
With a slightly shy smile, Fujisawa-san turned and ran off to join Kana.
"W-well then… guess I’ll head home?"
Feeling a little flustered by the unexpected turn of events, I made my way back home.
