Chapter 27: Reunion with the Blonde Transfer Student
“Early yesterday morning, in ■■ City, following a report from a local resident, police arrested suspects Tomoharu Sugawara and Eiji Kanda of the designated Yamatou-kai crime syndicate on suspicion of violating the Firearms and Swords Control Law. The two suspects are currently being interrogated…”
"Another dangerous incident, huh? Shuu, you better be careful too."
"Yeah, I know."
The next morning, while having a simple breakfast of leftover minestrone from last night and toast, I was having a casual conversation with my father, who had come home for a change.
He had no idea that the central figure of this incident was sitting right in front of him.
With that thought in mind, I took a bite of my buttered toast.
"By the way, where’s Kana?"
"She’s feeling unwell, so she’s sleeping a bit longer. She said she still plans to go to school, though."
"Did she catch a cold?"
"She checked her temperature, but it was normal. I think she’s just exhausted."
As we continued our ordinary conversation, I realized that it was about time for me to leave.
Normally, I would wash my own dishes, but when my father is home, household chores are his responsibility.
That’s been our family rule for as long as I can remember.
"Thanks for the meal. I’m heading out."
"Yeah, take care."
After placing my dishes on the counter, I grabbed my bag from beside the living room door and left the house.
Looking back on what happened last night...
After we had restrained the yakuza and healed the unconscious students with healing magic, we used spatial teleportation magic to escape the office and called the police, reporting that we had heard gunshots.
Before long, a police car arrived at the scene.
The officers found the two unconscious and restrained yakuza along with twelve unconscious students.
We were briefly questioned, but they quickly let us go home.
Since we had left no fingerprints behind and the office door had remained locked, there was no evidence linking us to the scene.
Not to mention, our outfits looked like we had simply been out for a run, making the police unlikely to suspect us of anything shady.
I had parted ways with Kuon after everything, reaching home at around 8 PM.
By now, the police were probably scrambling to investigate this bizarre case.
But they wouldn’t find any useful clues.
The two arrested yakuza had no knowledge of what was really going on in that office, and the glass jar—the most crucial piece of evidence—had been destroyed.
Even if it hadn’t been, it wouldn’t have mattered.
After all, the jar had been enchanted with magic, something that science would never be able to explain.
On top of that, from the yakuza’s perspective, the people who had restrained them appeared to be some kind of silent, blurry monsters.
The police had no leads.
(Speaking of which, what was that level-up yesterday…?)
Remembering the question I had pushed aside last night, I opened my status screen.

During yesterday's battle, I nearly got hit by a bullet because I had run out of MP.
At that moment, when Kuon used Body Enhancement, the skill level reached 10, and the experience gained from that caused me to level up, allowing me to escape the crisis.
But…
(There's no way the skill level would have reached 10 in that situation…)
I had certainly tested various things when acquiring the skill, and my skill level had increased somewhat as a result.
However, I hadn’t used the skill enough for it to reach its maximum level.
Which means…
(Could it be that the experience points gained when Kuon activated her skill were actually added to mine?)
Last night’s experiment was also meant to test the hypothesis that if I lent a skill through Skill Bestowal and let Kuon use it, I might be able to gain experience points and improve my status.
But the result was that even if I lent her a skill, I neither gained experience nor increased my status. It was a rather disappointing outcome.
However, what if the experience points weren’t added to Kuon, but to me instead?
I’ll need to investigate this further.
“Oops.”
Lost in thought, I had already reached the classroom.
“Morning.”
“Oh, morning.”
Exchanging greetings with acquaintances, I headed to my seat.
Kuon was sitting beside me, chatting with her close female friends about makeup and summer clothes.
That’s when I noticed that my familiar friend, who usually sat in front of me, wasn’t there.
Considering yesterday’s incident, I wondered if something had happened to him. I turned to another male friend to ask.
“Hey, Rentarou isn’t here yet?”
“Haven’t seen him today. Knowing him, he probably caught a cold and is still in bed. More importantly, I heard we’re getting a new transfer student in this class! And she’s super pretty!”
He spoke excitedly.
A transfer student… It’s probably Alicia.
“Huh? You’re not surprised?”
“Well, that’s because yesterday—”
Just then, the chime signaling the start of homeroom rang.
“Everyone, take your seats. Homeroom is starting,” said Ms. Koshimizu.
The students returned to their seats one by one.
…? There are an unusual number of absences today.
“Some of you may already know, but we have a new transfer student joining this class. Come in.”
At the teacher’s prompt, a blonde-haired beauty with straight hair walked into the classroom, causing some of the male students to get excited.
However, the girl didn’t seem to care about their reactions. She simply stood at the podium with a lively smile.
“Nice to meet you all. I’m Alicia Kamori.”
