Classmate wa Isekai de Yuusha ni Natta kedo, Ore dake Gendai Nihon ni Okizari ni Narimashita - Chapter 15

Chapter 15: The Angel of the Academy Invited Me

(TL/N: Will be using either first name or last name basis (Iori Shuu (Iori as his last name) and Kuon Kyori (Kuon as last name))

"Yawn… so sleepy."

As soon as I arrived at school and sat down, a big yawn escaped my mouth.

I stayed up too late last night… Once lunchtime comes around, I'll finish my meal quickly and dedicate the rest of the break to napping.

"Another big yawn, huh?"

"Hm? Ah, yeah, I was up late doing stuff."

The guy sitting in front of me turned around and struck up a conversation.

His name is Asama Rentarou. Ever since we entered school, we've gotten along decently well, chatting casually now and then.

"What, did you find some dirty videos or something?"

"Hell no. My watch broke, so I spent the night desperately trying to fix it."

I pulled out my watch from my bag, carefully wrapped in cushioning material, and showed it to him.

"Huh? Looks fine to me."

"Yeah, on the outside. But this thing started randomly sounding its alarm at times I never set."

Last night, just as I was about to sleep after taking a bath, the watch suddenly started blaring.

At first, I thought I must've pressed something by mistake in my drowsiness.

But then, less than an hour later, it went off again.

By the time morning came, the damn thing had rung over a dozen times, keeping me from getting any decent sleep before heading to school.

Well, the reason it broke in the first place is probably because I overdid it when I sent that monster flying yesterday.

So honestly, it’s entirely my fault.

"So, what are you gonna do with it?"

"I’ll take it to a shop and see if they can fix it. If not, I’ll just buy a new one."

"It still works as a regular watch, right? If you’re getting a new one, can I have that one?"

"Sure. 3,000 yen and it’s yours."

"You’re seriously charging me…?"

"Of course. And this is already a huge discount."

As we were joking around, the classroom suddenly grew noisy.

"Kyori-san, what happened to your leg?!"

"I twisted my ankle, but it’s nothing serious. Please don’t worry about it."

Kyori Kuon entered the classroom, her knee and ankle wrapped in bandages.

Her closer classmates rushed to her side, concern clear in their voices.

By now, Kuon Kyori wasn’t just admired in our grade—she had become the "Angel" of the entire school.

With her stunning beauty, friendly demeanor, top entrance exam scores, athletic ability, and status as the daughter of a prestigious family, she had effortlessly risen to the top of not just the class hierarchy, but the entire school's social ladder within a single week.

So naturally, when someone like her showed up with injuries, the class was bound to be in an uproar.

(…Still, what the hell was all that last night?)

It was obvious that wasn’t some kind of cosplay photoshoot or anything.

I mean, I can’t even imagine someone like Kuon doing something like that.

More importantly, that oni was clearly a monster, not a human.

And my Appraisal skill had confirmed it.

But still…

(Appraisal.)

Kuon Kyori – Human – 15 years old

Status: Light cuts and bruises on arms, knees, and shoulders.

Additional Info: Injured and fatigued from a battle with an oni as ordered by her family.

When I use Appraisal on a human, the only information I get is their current status and additional details related to that status.

If they have a criminal record, that would also be listed separately, but since that doesn’t concern Kuon, I ignore it.

Basically, I have no clue what kind of background she comes from or what this “main family” of hers is.

If I could just ask her directly, I’d clear up all this uncertainty in no time.

But unfortunately, we live in completely different worlds.

More importantly, that night, I made sure to activate my Cognitive Interference Magic skill so she wouldn’t remember my face.

If I suddenly started talking to her now, she’d definitely find it suspicious, and I’d end up drawing unnecessary attention in class.

Should I just forget about that night completely?

But even if I try…

"…Hey. Hey, Shuu!"

"Huh?"

"Huh? Don’t ‘huh’ me. You totally zoned out just now. You alright?"

"My bad, my bad. Guess my sleep deprivation and everything else just caught up with me…"

Thinking too deeply about this stuff just makes me even sleepier.

I’m not on house duty today or tomorrow, so maybe I’ll just pass out as soon as I get home.

"Still, I hope Kuon-san is okay."

"She said she just twisted her ankle, so she’s probably fine. Besides, it’s not like we’d ever get a chance to talk to her anyway. No point worrying about it."

"Ugh… Yeah, you’re right."

Realizing the gap between their worlds, Rentarou let out a deep sigh of defeat.

And honestly, saying it out loud helped me give up on it too.

Unlike Fujisawa-san, she wasn’t suffering from some crime or anything.

So it’s not like I have any reason to get involved.

Just as I was thinking that—

BEEP! BEEP!

"Whoa!? What the hell!?"

My watch alarm suddenly blared, making Rentarou jump in shock.

◇◇◇

"!"

"Myaa-chan, what’s wrong?"

"N-no, it just… startled me a little."

"Really? Anyway—"

"…Sorry, I need to step away for a bit."

"Myaa-chan!? Kuon-san!?"

◇◇◇

After somehow managing to turn off the alarm and apologizing to my classmates for the disturbance, I sat back down.

"That’s even worse than I thought."

"So? You still wanna buy it for 3,000 yen?"

"I’ll have to politely decline."

To muffle the sound, I wrapped the watch in polyethylene cushioning before stuffing it back into my bag.

If I take it to the store, they’ll probably just recommend getting a new one anyway.

"…Huh??"

Just as I was thinking that, Rentarou’s expression suddenly changed.

I was about to ask what was up, but then—

"—Iori-san."

A voice I shouldn’t have been able to hear reached my ears.

Slowly, hesitantly, I turned around—

And there she was.

Kuon Kyori.

Staring down at me with a serious expression.

"Uhh… Do you need something?"

"Excuse me. Are you free after school today?"

"…Yeah, I guess."

"I see."

I was planning to take my watch in for repairs, but it’s not like that’s anything urgent.

So I agreed, and Kuon pulled out a notepad from her pocket, quickly scribbled something down, then folded it and handed it to me.

"I’ll be waiting at the location on that note after school."

And with that, she simply walked back to her group of friends.

"Shuuu~?"

Before I could even process what just happened, I felt the sharp stares of my classmates—

Mainly from the guys.

"Hahaha…"

This is gonna be a huge pain, isn’t it?

Feeling it in my gut, I started brainstorming how to get out of this mess.
